Some people know from a very early age what they want for their lives and what their vocation will be, while others are not clear about it. So that, although they are interested in the scientific branches, they are not clear about which of the engineering fields they like best and which they should specialise in. For this reason, as they progress through higher education, students should inform themselves about the professions and the job opportunities they have. Especially in the area of engineering, since mechanical engineering is not the same as chemical engineering or even computer engineering.
In this way, it is important to know which are currently the most in demand. Thus having an important basis of information about the job opportunities offered by each one, and we are going to mention 5 types of engineering with very good job opportunities.
Mechanical engineering
This engineering stands out in the rankings of professions, as it promotes the training of professional engineers to design, improve, produce and maintain any mechanical system device, industrial installations and engines.
The activity of mechanical engineers is fundamental for the production and construction of thermal, industrial and above all mechanical installations. Their position being key to the design of systems that guarantee the future of the environment.
This career is mostly studied by men, however, women can also perform very well in this field.
Chemical engineering
Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that applies knowledge of sciences such as biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics to the transformation of raw materials or chemical products into more elaborate and much more useful ones.
Professional engineers in this discipline are responsible for the design, development and management of processes for the optimisation of raw materials in the manufacture of new products. They can also work as researchers, proposing the improvement of existing chemical processes, leading teams that are committed to caring for the environment.
Civil engineering
This profession is one of the most in-demand in this field. And in it, knowledge of management, planning, construction and conservation of projects and constructions is acquired. Their work must therefore be aligned with the objectives of sustainable development.
Civil engineers work together with architects, because they complement each other in the construction of a work or structure. That is to say, they have knowledge of design and programmes. This makes them people with high analytical skills, which are very necessary in a career with a high level of complexity.
Biomedical engineering
Biomedical engineering is concerned with the design and construction of tools and technologies for medical, prosthetic, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. In order to fulfil the profession, they must have knowledge in three important areas, such as:
- Computer engineering
- Electronics, since they must know how to develop electronic circuits to acquire data and know how to process them to create hardware and software solutions.
- Life sciences, i.e. they must know about biology, biochemistry, genetics and physiology, not at the same level as a doctor, but they must have the basic knowledge.
The aim of this is to preserve the quality of life of human beings.
Industrial engineering
Industrial engineering is concerned with the optimisation of human, technical and computer resources. As well as the management and administration of the service and transformation systems of a company or organisation.
The objective of this profession is to obtain quality products and services, so that professionals become responsible for all resources, whether human, material or process.
Their focus is productivity, so they must always be analysing how to reduce costs, time, materials, simplifying actions as much as possible.
The best thing about this career is that it is multidisciplinary, as it has links with practices and knowledge in different areas of other engineering, so they can work almost anywhere.
