At some point in our lives we may have to study and work at the same time. This may at first seem like a very difficult act to perform, as the hours of the day are too short for everything that needs to be done. However, there are routines that make it easier studying and working at the same time.
Therefore, combining studies and work is possible and it is one hundred per cent positive, as the person starts to set goals and to set a personal challenge. There are just a few specific things to keep in mind in order to achieve the right combination of the two activities without neglecting either one.
Set your priorities
If you are pursuing a university or technical degree and you depend on yourself to support yourself, the best thing to do is to establish priorities and think about the possibility of making your studies less of a burden by lightening the academic load a little. In this way you will be able to spend your time studying and working in a less burdensome way.
In case you have financial support from your parents and you want to work to help out a bit at home, you can do it as a freelancer. Nowadays this type of work is in great demand among young people. Because while they study they can generate extra money to help them with their daily and personal expenses.
Organise your time well
You should take into account the daily distribution of your study time. It is advisable to allocate at least two hours, because it is easier to divide the learning time into short sessions than to have to deal with all the content in one evening.
Studying a lot at one time reduces performance considerably. It is very difficult to maintain concentration over long periods of time, and it is recommended that you take breaks every few hours to allow your mind to recover.
Make a weekly schedule
This point goes hand in hand with the previous one. An effective way to organise your time well is to make a weekly calendar. This is because scheduling the planning and timetable so that you can work and study allows you to fulfil your responsibilities in a timely manner, generating a high performance.
When working and studying at the same time, a calendar is essential. This is because all activities, exams, work schedules, study schedules and more must be placed in the calendar. Always keeping an order and an adequate chronology according to priorities.
If you want to do both activities at the same time, it is best not to neglect or overlook any aspect, performing both study and work in an ideal way.
Be realistic about the hours you spend
You may think that time will always be on your side when it is not. So you should be realistic about the hours you spend studying and working. Mainly because these should never clash. In addition, you should not only take into account the hours you work and the hours you go to school or university. But also manage the hours you spend studying at home, doing your homework and more.
You can’t demand more of yourself than you can afford, so you have to strike the right balance. And if so, enrol in the subjects that time really allows. It’s no use taking a lot of subjects and not doing well in any of them.
Don’t forget to rest
The worst mistake a person who studies and works can make is to sleep less hours in order to make the most of the time studying. Rest is essential, and even more so when the daily routine is very hectic due to work and academic activities.
For this reason, a routine of rest and sleep should be followed in order to recover energy and vitality for a new day. In addition, accumulating fatigue can lead to feelings of lack of concentration and loss of interest.
At least 7 hours of restful sleep is needed to start a day with strength and in the best possible mood. Not sleeping has health consequences, and this should be your priority above all else.
