If we were to talk about all the reasons we have for studying in Malaga, we would have to make a very extensive topic. Since there are really many positive points that we can mention, in a certain way, the warmth of life is the most favourable point that Malaga offers.
If you are thinking of moving to Malaga for a long period of time for educational reasons, you may not want to return to your home city after a while, after having enjoyed the tranquillity, the culture and the good treatment of the community.
University environment
Studying in Malaga can be a great option for students looking to start a quality education in Europe.
As one of the most popular destinations to study abroad, Spain also offers easy educational access to other European countries through a good transport network in and out of the country. With this accessibility, travelling within Europe will no longer be a problem, thanks to its low prices for international students.
There are many first class universities in Malaga, in fact, these Spanish universities have been recognized all over the world thanks to their good teaching and research process. Some of these universities are:
- University of Malaga (UM)
- International University of Andalusia (UNIA)
- Pablo de Olavide University (UPO)
Each university offers an enjoyable experience to each of its students, with different specialisations and degrees to choose from. For example, UM is known for its excellent programmes in business and economics, while UNIA offers degrees focused on technology and innovation.
Culture and history
Málaga is a relatively new city, but with a history and culture as important and extensive as that of Granada.
Being a city so rich in culture and heritage, you’ll be able to see the initial highlights of the city’s Moorish architecture, the castle of Gibralfaro, the great cathedral. Or in terms of education, the more than 20 museums.
Do you want to relax a little and release stress after so many tests and/or classes? The central historic centre will be one of the best options to stroll around, get to know, go shopping and learn a little more about these emblematic streets of Spain.
But wait! The cultural and historical offer does not end yet. Being a relatively new and big city, you have many important places to visit and get to know. Such as the Botanical Garden of La Concepción, an almost obligatory place to visit for tourists or new residents.
Other historical and cultural sites are:
- Picasso Museum.
- Thyssen Museum
- Universal Malagueño
- Malagueta Beach
- Marqués de Larios Street
- And many more.
Gastronomy
The gastronomy of Malaga is as varied as the country itself. When visiting the streets, you will be able to see how many street vendors offer you churros and palmeras giving you a free sample, which after a few steps will turn into a great feast for you.
If we focus a little on the city centre of Malaga, you will find almost perfect squares filled with thousands of people gathered for evening entertainment in a tapas bar or to eat outdoors as usual.
However, if you are visiting Malaga for the first time, you may notice that the amount of seafood and fish consumed is excessive. However, you should know that seafood plays an important role in the history of the region as a port metropolis.
If there is one thing that stands out in Malaga, it is the plethora of churrerías, small patisseries specialising in making Spanish sweets.
Each of the dishes mentioned above is just a sample of what Malaga’s gastronomy has to offer.
Cost of living
As for the cost of living when studying in Malaga, you should be aware that the prices of food, transport and living are lower than in Andalusia and Spain (although this may vary). The price of housing is also cheaper than in most European cities.
A very important detail to note is that in the last few months of the year, the cost of living in Spain has increased by 20%. So there is a good chance that you will find a city where the cost of living is much cheaper than in Malaga.
