Short careers: study in Spain

When you do not have a professional career, it is difficult to enter the labour market; however, nowadays, some of the short careers are among the ones that offer the most opportunities to get good jobs.

Fortunately, in Spain there are 2 to 3-year degree courses in which you can obtain your degree and apply for vacancies in the most in-demand professions. In the following, we will see what they are about and what they are.

Why choose a short course of study for university?

The main advantage of taking a short career in Spain is the possibility of entering the labour market quickly, as you can complete your studies in a couple of years and obtain a university degree that gives you this possibility.

In addition to this, nowadays companies are focused on hiring people to help them keep up with technological advances and this is possible with emerging careers that are mostly of short study periods.

Finally, a short career allows students to develop their learning while doing other activities, because of the usual flexibility in timetables and, if you wish to extend your studies later on, you can do so without any problems.

Duration of short courses in Spain

Before talking about the duration of short careers, it is important to mention that they have the same validity as a university degree; that is to say, a degree is awarded that guarantees the knowledge and skills acquired in the training of the specified area.

The duration of short courses may vary according to the area of study; however, no short course exceeds 3 years. Similarly, the study modalities may be different according to the institution where you study and the programmes offered, finding face-to-face, online or blended learning programmes.

Is a course or a short career better?

First of all, it is necessary to establish the differences between a short degree and a course, since short degrees are university degrees, with their respective programmes based on scientific areas, research and practice; besides granting a degree of the same importance as for a long degree.

On the other hand, a course is a programme (mostly of an intensive type) that can be taught by non-regulated institutions, which do not award a degree, but a certificate of participation that certifies that you have passed the criteria required in a specific programme.

In view of this, it is not possible to say whether a degree or a course is better, as it depends exclusively on your professional interest. If you want to be recognised as a professional, you must necessarily do a degree course, but if you just want to improve your skills or learn some new ones, you can enrol in a course.
