Surely more than half of the world’s population has encountered the problematic situation that comes with starting a new stage in your school year. It’s an emotionally intense time, not knowing anyone in the group, trying to fit in, dealing with new teaching methods. And most importantly, doing well academically despite having to deal with all of the above. But don’t worry, there are many ways to make this stage of your life more bearable. And here are 5 tips to help you get off to a good start at the beginning of the school year.
Organise yourself in good time
The first thing to do at the start of your course is to resolve the issue of time and the class timetable. So we recommend that from the very first moment you start to organise yourself correctly.
This will ensure that when you receive your first assignments from your teacher. You will have the opportunity to react and present them in good time, anticipating and preparing everything according to what you need to do to make it easier to manage the whole thing in relation to the school timetable.
So, prepare yourself with time, organise your documents well and so, when you have to submit an assignment or take an exam, you will have everything in your favour to get a good result.
There are some techniques that we do recommend. Such as using a calendar, planning with index cards, using colour coding or any other condition that allows you to easily differentiate each stage of your planning.
Talk to your colleagues and network
Socialising is highly underestimated. Many people tend to think that socialising at school, college or university is not necessary and could be defined as a waste of time.
In that sense, give yourself the opportunity to talk to your peers and create a network of contacts that you can rely on for those times when you have problems with an assignment or an exam.
So, don’t put one thing before the other. Study really well but also socialise, only then can you make sure you have several options on how to deal with the issue.
Join organised activities
As in the first case, organisation at the beginning of the course is very important. So you even have to sign up for all your activities in an organised way.
Also, you have to think a bit about how to distribute your to-do’s in relation to the time you have available. So we recommend you to write down everything in an organised way, so that at the end of the day you have everything at hand.
Personalise your space and make it your own
In another section we have the question of space. While preparing your documents is very important, the comfort you feel in your workspace also influences your concentration and academic performance.
Therefore, we recommend that you personalise your workspace to make you feel much more comfortable when you have to study. Whether it is with drawings, colours, shapes, whatever it takes to make you feel fully comfortable.
You could also use something like music to enhance your comfort or even some kind of personalised sticker to mark the space as your comfort and study zone.
All of this if you have a place that you are going to call your own at any given time, such as during high school or college.
Set yourself a routine
Finally, we recommend that you set yourself a routine to stick to. This is because it is so important that you do one task or another at the right time.
Therefore, you should start to consider a well-planned routine for your daily life that allows you to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to each task or activity.
Finally, academic preparation periods are quite unsettling for almost all students. That’s why if you want to start off on the right foot and bring this whole situation to a successful conclusion, we recommend that you start implementing each of the strategies listed here.
However, don’t stop with just these options. There is always room for you to try one or two new ways to improve your academic performance during any of the stages and periods that make up the school year.
