There are dozens of options, but we are going to mention the 5 museums in Madrid that have student discount.

Prado Museum

The Prado Museum is also known as the Museum for painters, and it is the most important museum of European painting, being one of the most visited in the world. It is a great place of learning for the new generation of artists and one of the main museums with student discount.

When you visit the Prado Museum, you will not only enjoy a magical collection of paintings. But also sculptures, coins, weapons and other pieces of art on display as decoration.

There is a single entrance ticket for the collection and temporary exhibitions, with a reduced price for those with a youth card, as the price is €7.50, while the general price is €15.

Reina Sofía Museum

This is the most visited museum in Spain, with a collection of 20th century and contemporary art. It has more than 21,000 works of art, where there are small queues to enjoy the exhibition, making it one hundred per cent worth a visit to the museum.

The Reina Sofia Museum even offers scholarships for research, coordination and training in subjects and activities related to the museum. In addition, they also offer 2 scholarships for the formation of editorial projects and public activities in the museum field.

Admission to the museum is free for the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.

Thyssen Museum

This museum opened its doors in 1992 to the triangle of Art, which concentrates the most important pictorial collection in Spain. Which are the Prado Museum, the Rina Sofia Museum and the Thyssen Museum.

The museum conserves works of 20th century avant-garde trends, and its existence is due to the government’s acquisition of the private collection of the powerful Thyssen-Bornemisza family, which was one of the most powerful families in German industry in the 20th century.

In addition, the museum collaborates with universities and graduate schools by offering student programmes and internships.  Admission to the museum is free for the permanent collection and free for the exhibitions for those who have a student youth card.

Sorolla Museum

All students with a student card can enter the Sorolla Museum free of charge, and enjoy an incredible experience of what life was like in the 19th century. This is a house-museum that retains much of the original decoration, allowing you to learn more about life in the previous century.

The collection on display here is made up of works by Sorolla himself and various objects he collected throughout his life. So there are more than 1,200 pieces available that allow you to learn about the painter’s family life and see the sketches he made for his own home.

Museum of Romanticism

The Museum of Romanticism has a very rich and heterogeneous collection with more than 16,000 works including sculptures, paintings, furniture, photography, prints, drawings and decorative arts.

In addition to this, it also has intangible heritage, such as family roles, rooms, way of life and fashion of the time.  Something very striking about this museum is that it has a large garden that is used as a space for visitors to share and socialise. With romantic style tables, ambient music and a counter to order snacks of choice.

This museum also has scholarship programmes and student discount for interested people, and if you have a youth card, admission is free.
