Volunteering: 5 experiences

Volunteering is a way to learn while living a new experience. Students or people who participate in these do not do it for an economic or academic retribution, but for the commitment to work for the welfare of others, approaching realities that are very different from those that are lived daily.

Volunteering activities create empathy and people sensitive to local problems that occur in low-income sectors. With the aim of helping and seeking solutions that lead to a transformation and improvement of conditions.

It can be said that volunteering is an expression of solidarity that implies commitment to the needs that exist. Therefore, there are many ways of volunteering in society and we are going to mention 5 experiences.

Socio-health volunteering is aimed at improving the quality of life of people who are affected by an illness. It allows support to be given to the families of sick patients, promoting blood or organ donations and transplants (as the case may be), as well as participating in home and hospital care.

Volunteers in this area run programmes to raise awareness and promote healthy lifestyles, preventing the spread of diseases and viruses.

Environmental aid

The environmental volunteer programme directly involves the conservation of the environment. And raises awareness about the protection of nature, ecological balance and the sustainability of the planet.

The aim of this type of activity is the protection and recovery of natural spaces and species, animal care, development of environmental awareness, participatory reforestation and more.

Cultural and historical heritage

Through cultural and historical heritage volunteering, people can get involved in projects related to the recovery, dissemination and conservation of the cultural and historical identity of a territory. Therefore, the experience in this type of volunteering is carried out in museums, libraries, historical monuments, archaeological excavations, etc.

The aim of this volunteering is to keep culture and historical feeling alive and present, so that identity is not lost. And to generate love and a sense of belonging for each of the monuments or buildings that have prevailed over time.

Educational

Within the educational volunteering we work in the literacy and education of people, defending education for all, promoting participation in the school community regardless of age.

It allows participation in the education of children, young people and adults through reading support programmes, inclusive education, leisure time education, activities within the school community and promoting partnerships with parents of students.

Educational volunteering is carried out in under-resourced communities where there are understaffed educational institutions. Seeking to encourage knowledge and education, so that all residents have the opportunity to educate themselves and improve their living conditions.

Sports

Sports volunteering is carried out mainly in sporting events, making them work perfectly. It promotes the social integration of people in a community.

The majority of volunteers in this programme are men, because they are the most interested in the world of sport and all the competitions that exist. More than social work, this type of volunteering is a leisure activity for all those who participate.
